A poll released today by Rasmussen puts McCain ahead of Obama in the key battleground state of Ohio by 10 points.  Allowing for margins for error and so on, and considering the recent results averaged by Real Clear Politics which give Obama a net 1.5 point lead, it now appears that Ohio may have changed to the “dead heat” category.

The Rasmussen Ohio poll is a stand-alone, not a tracking poll, and Rasmussen reports that its Ohio polls for the previous two months had McCain with a small lead.

As reported on Real Clear Politics, today’s tracking polls stand as follows:  Gallup has Obama +3; Rasmussen has McCain and Obama tied.  The Gallup numbers are influenced by an Obama “bounce” in its Sunday polling, and may be higher than Rasmussen for that reason.  Except for the tracking polls, all of the Presidential preference polls listed on RCP were taken before July 15 and before Obama’s trip overseas; as new polls come in and older ones drop off the list, expect some interesting changes.
