Barack Obama’s campaign is in trouble; he and his supporters know it. The “Drill Here, Drill Now” initiative originated by Newt Gingrich has become a battle cry which threatens to overwhelm not only Obama but the Democratic Congress. Now we see the reaction of true elitists to being beaten – - and they are being beaten – - on an issue they hold dear: condemn your opponents as “ignorant” and “stupid.”
Obama himself kicked off the chorus on August 5 by stating that the Republican “Obama Energy Plan” tire gauge gag was “ignorant.” As reported by Reuters, after claiming that his opponents were “lying about what my energy plan is,” as if the tire-gauge represented actual policy rather than a humorous campaign ploy, Obama stated, “they are making fun of a step that every expert says would absolutely reduce our oil consumption by three to four percent . . . . It’s like these guys take pride in being ignorant.”
Obama is either lying or ignorant when he claims that “every expert” will support his tire-pressure claim. That won’t happen, because Obama is wrong. See Obama’s “Tire-Pressure” Canard – - Why It’s Disingenuous. Nonetheless, his elitist supporters have been quick to join the chorus.
Yesterday’s New York Times featured an op-ed piece titled “Know-Nothing Politics.” The author of that screed opined, “Republicans, once hailed as the ‘party of ideas,’ have become the party of stupid.”
Well, well.
Alas, we can expect more of this kind of thing as the “Drill Here, Drill Now” initiative continues. This reaction is based in the elitist, paternalizing nature of the present Democratic Party leadership – - “We know what’s best for you; don’t be so ignorant and stupid.” Well, perhaps we cling to our ignorance and stupidity, but we’re in good company; Charles Krauthammer has just declared for the ignorant and stupid crowd in his article, “It’s Simple: Drill and Conserve.”
Some reality checks, Obamacrats. One, not all McCain supporters are Republicans; you’re doing a fine job of leveling the playing field by driving Democrats to the other side. Second, I will weigh the intelligence and information level of McCain’s supporters against that of Obama’s supporters any day; bring it, chuckleheads. Third, and last, if you truly had the courage of your convictions, you wouldn’t be resorting to such smarmy attacks.
Obama and his campaigners have revealed a serious weakness in their position. There is more than a little concern evident from the ignorant-and-stupid line of attack. Let’s go at it.

Why did Obama vote for the 2005 DICK CHENEY ENERGY BILL?? He says McCain is in the pocket of the energy industry but McCain voted AGAINST the 2005 Dick Cheney Special, so did Hillary, that should tell you something.

Yes I was offended when Obama said the word “ignorant”…Just what we need more name calling…I am really tired of being insulted by Obama and the media. No it is not just them either…people who leave comments insulting the Clinton’s offends me also. McCain supporters and Obama supporters
Today I have made a decision….Not voting for McCain…I am sick of all the name calling and rudeness from the supporters of both candidates… examples follow…
Those are from republicans who support McCain. And those are nice ones that I felt OK with posting here. I want no part of it any more. I am done.

It was just a way for Mr. Obama to vent his frustration, to get the air off his inflated ego.

This is BOs MO, he and his trolls insult the opposition, Clinton supporters have already been through this that is why they have organized to vote against him.
McCain supporters better get used to this tactic of insulting, BO and his minions are just getting warmed up.

Just the headline of this piece, proves Obama’s premise true.
The use of *elitist* by GOPsters, means exactly what? Does it mean financial elitists?
Nope… that’s the GOP base.
My take is that it usually means intellectual elitists. There is, and has been for a long time (think Adlai Stevenson), a GOP anti-intellectualism thing.
A real effort to demean anyone, who thinks.
When one thinks, things are rarely black and white… there’s lots of gray, in other words, nuance (another GOP upchuck word).
When ya read GOP commentary, or posts on blogs, everything’s always black & white, either/or. Take for instance, the abortion issue… to the Right, anyone that isn’t *Pro-Life* is *Pro-Abortion.* The concept of being against abortion, but *Pro-Choice* seems beyond their comprehension.
I know of nobody that is Pro-Abortion, but many who are Pro-Choice.
So, this ignorance Obama speaks of, is related to those that just follow along, without thinking. Those that laugh at the suggestion, that keeping tires inflated, could save the Electorate, billions of dollars. It’s nothing to laugh at, it’s true… do the math.
And yes, voting for McCain, by average hard-working people, is being ignorant, since it would continue current policies, which don’t favor them. Voting against one’s own interests, is being ignorant.

jon – - Did you actually read the article? Did you notice the name of the blog? Oh, and when you say, “yes, voting for McCain, by average hard-working people, is being ignorant, since it would continue current policies, which don’t favor them. Voting against one’s own interests, is being ignorant,” you make my point. Working people can decide for themselves where their bests interests lie. They’re not your pets.

Obama is trying to blame McCain for job losses in Ohio…it won’t stick. After the conventions, McCain’s image will be stronger and Obama’s weaker. The last time Obama took a sudden interest in economics was last Spring when the Ohio and Penn. primaries were approaching, and Obama last both by wide margins.

Given that Obama and his apologists and devotees have attempted to fascistically hijack the English language–you know, now saying that “hubris” and “arrogance” and even “skinny” are all racial code–is it really surprising that, with their backs against the wall, if not sliding down that wall, they would resort to calling Repubs–and, by inference, conservatives, independents, anti-Obama Democrats, etc.–”ignorant” and “stupid”?
Typical liberal retort: When you can’t answer, especially with reason and/or example, resort to name calling.
What I find amusing about all this is that Obama and his are so blinded by his megalomania and his sense of entitlement they think that they can behave any way and no one will notice.
Well, actually, the wrongly named MSM won’t or should they, won’t report it.
It’s going to be brutal come September, should the Democrats be so foolish to nominate this empty suit from Illinois.
Should they, then we’ll see just how incapable he and his devotees are of standing and articulating much of anything other than some smarta**, non-descriptive, sophomoric response other than his opponent and his supporters are “ignorant” and/or “stupid.”
By their current behaviors, I suggest Obama and his are adding new definitions to those two words that Merriam-Webster, for example, should consider using as examples of the extremes of stupid and ignorant.

CKA: Good to hear from you again. And, yes, so far this is kindergarten stuff. I was only 11 at the time, but I remember the 1960 Kennedy v. Nixon election very well. By September it was trench warfare. The Nixon supporters routinely referred to JFK as “that n[deleted]-lover Kennedy.” Then it would get nasty. What we have so far this year bears the same relationship to serious political name-calling as patty-cake does to bareknuckles boxing. Meanwhile, I’m storing up a bunch of race-neutral descriptors like “meathead” and “biddy-brain” just in case I need them. Cripes! we live in a thin-skinned age.
This story about Lyndon Johnson must be true, since LBJ like to tell it: One day a candidate for the Texas legislature came to consult then-Senator Johnson about his campaign, in which he was being bested by the opposition. LBJ advised, “Call him a pig-f***er.” The candidate was taken aback; “but he’s not a pig-f***er!” “I know that,” said Johnson, “but by the time he proves it, the election will be over.” Now that’s dirty politics.

I was a tad older than you when the Nixon-Kennedy contest occurred.
Think I’ve heard that story about LBJ. If it isn’t true, it ought to be, because it sounds like something he’d have said.
And, you bet, thin-skinned we, especially those of certain younger age, have become.
In those campaigns of yesterday year, Obama would’ve lasted about, what, a half-day or day? Then, he and his advisers would be crying, wailing, huddled together in some group-hug-kind-of-thing, waiting for their mothers to come rescue him.
Regardless, daily, he exposes himself as someone who’s so pathetically weak and manipulative that, as I read somewhere in the blogosphere, even seven-year-olds–girls, maybe?–are on to his hype.
As for the coming post-September clashes, I hope that McCain pulls off the gloves and goes bare knuckle with Obama, if BHO makes it that far. That’ll be something instructive to see–and I don’t mean how Obama counters and clobbers McCain.
Though I suspect that by the time Obama and his team fumble-stumble through it, they will have alienated so many people that there’ll not be anyone over 55 or so, unless, perhaps, they’re black, who will vote for him.
Ditto for anyone who believes in God, actually works for a living, resepcts the sanctity of life and understands the difference between form and substance. Veterans and active military, too. Maybe even homosexuals and transsexuals. Maybe even leftists?
BTW: Thanks, again, for the post and, in general, posts.
Illegitimi non carborundum–and you know who the illegitimi would be and are.

I’m getting a lil peeved at ObamaSnob’s constant degradation of the very people he wishes to convert. I live in a small town in Pennsylvania; I’m not bitter, I’m angry. I’m not clinging to guns, I don’t even own any, bu t I will fight for the right to own one if I so choose. I don’t cling to my religion, either, I embrace it, as my faith is sometimes all I have to keep me going. I resent the thought that the Republican voter base is somehow less-intelligent. I’m a registered Republican and I have an IQ of 142. Still think I’m stupid? Besides, it seems that anyone who simply thinks for themselves and realizes what a bad idea the Democraps are, is labeled as stupid. I thought the tire gauges were funny. Obama can’t take a fricking joke, he has no place in our White House.
