I’m taking suggestions for renaming my Weblog. After witnessing the disgraceful orgy of slander and lies in which the Democratic Party engaged this weekend, the only emotions I can muster are shame and disgust.
The term “Swiftboating” is inadequate to describe the Democrats’ reaction to Gov. Sarah Palin. They and their media sponsors rolled out the entire fleet: battleships DSS Libel and DSS Lies; aircraft carrier DSS Slander; gunboats DSS Innuendo, DSS Smear, and DSS Slime. The hypocrisy of their sniveling about “Swiftboating” has been fully revealed.
The Democrats have been rewarded for the disgraceful behavior with a small “bounce” in the public opinion polls. The lead for Obama-Biden increased only a point or so after the Democratic Convention, but increased by four more points, net, over Sunday and the Labor Day holiday. Any knowledgeable person will tell you that negative campaigning works, even if only for a short term. The downside for the Democrats is that everything in Barack Obama’s background is once again fair game; he has a lot more to account for than does Sarah Palin.
I never bought the “Swiftboating” ploy in the first place, as my regular readers are aware. What rankled the Democrats was not that someone got “Swiftboated” but that they were beaten at their own game. This is a somewhat raunchy story about Democratic President Lyndon B. Johnson. During his Senate years, Lyndon had the occasion to advise a Democratic candidate who was contending for a House seat. “He’s killing me; what can I do?” asked the candidate. Lyndon replied, “Call him a pigf*ck*r.” The candidate was momentarily taken aback. “But he’s not a pigf*ck*r,” he responded. “I know that, and you know that,” said Lyndon, “but the voters don’t and by the time he proves you’re wrong the election will be over.”
The vicious reaction of the Democrats and the mainstream media to Sarah Palin has two sources. One, of course, is the desire to win this round, at any cost, by fair means or foul. The steady stream of lies and misrepresentations since early June confirms the “foul” part – - the slandering of Sarah Palin was not out of character. The second source is somewhat more subtle, but nonetheless obvious: Sarah Palin is in fact the “outsider” who Barack Obama pretends to be, and she has never cultivated a relationship with the Washington, DC, and New York City media people. They resent her for that, and it shows.
If the MSM people didn’t see Sarah Palin coming, they have only themselves to blame. Supporters have been talking her up as a VP choice for months; some of them put together a Palin-for-Veep video in early June. I have been writing about her since the middle of June. The media and the Obama camp were surprised only because of their inattention.
So, back to the need for a new blog name. Virginia Democrats are notorious ticket-splitters. As a typical Virginia Democrat, I would have voted Democratic in some of the down-ticket races this fall. Not now. Not ever again, as far as I can see. So, should it be “A McCain Ex-Democrat’s Journal?” Or something more pointed? Or, perhaps, a disclaimer – - such as, “the views expressed on this blog are NOT the views of the Democratic Party, thank God”? Helpful suggestions are welcome.

Reading more and more I see that the whole dem party seems to be corrupt…not just the new leader, Obama.
Sorry I am no help on the new name but I thought about changing mine also, getting the dem completely out of it. EX- is good though.

How about “A Daily Kos Republican’s Journal” since they seem to be the folks directing things these days.

As a fellow ex-Dem, I feel exactly the same way. How about…
An Independent Ex-Democrat’s Journal
political notes and commentary free of hypocrisy and hate

Why don’t you just leave Democrats out of your title altogether? How about “A McCaniac’s Journal”? It’s short and pretty well describes your rant.
p.s. I’m thrilled that your party has Sarah Palin and Joe Leiberman on your side. The dems don’t need to hurt you. Y’all just torpedoed your poor old selves.

Jay,
A Conservative’s Journal
An Ex-Democrat’s Conservative Journal
From what I’ve read of your writing, you are conservative, if not Republican. Conservative can be Independent or Republican.
The media has no right to know the Veep pick until it’s announced. Let them whine.
Swiftboating – the use of this word is terrible. It dishonors the honorable men who came forward and spoke out a critical time in this Country.

I think you should stick with your current title. After all, the Obama movement is only attached the Democratic Party, and will be overthrown at some point. I say you stay on message, and keep up the good work until the Democrats come back to America. We love borrowing you until then, though.
Your friend, a Virginia Republican.

Jay, you’re right: What the Demockacrats, liberals and leftists have done and continue to do to Sarah Palin and her family is not “Swiftboating.” That implies that hidden truths are brought to light to counter the lies advanced by the person begin “Swiftboated.”
And, yes, I agree with Maggie, to even use that term dishonors the honorable men who came forward to tell the truth. And it disnonors the honorable men who served on those boats, got wounded or died on them or because of them.
What the DLLs and their shills in the former news media, which years ago transformed itself in the the DLLs’ shills — but now which has openly declared war on democracy, decency, family, faith, America and Americans and more — what they are doing is libelous and cowardly. Perhaps even seditious.
As for your blog’s new name, why don’t you put “ex-Democrat” in the deck, instead of polluting your blog’s title with that name.
For the blog title, how about: “A Conservative Mountain View”? “Or “A Conservative’s View from the Mountains”? Or “Illegitmi Non Carborundum”?
BTW, Phyllis, in your dreams dear. You DLLs are so frightened now of Sarah Palin and the McCain-Palin ticket that all you’ve got left is invective, innuendo, slander and lies, the filth spewed from small minds and hard hearts. You’re simply acting because of the inevitable, which became that way when McCain nominated Palin last Friday — and clinched the election.
BTW2: Let’s not forget how Andrew Sullivan has gone over the edge and has matched the Daily Kos in absurdity and crassness. Nor should we forget MSNBC and Newsweek. And the NYTLATWaPo and others.

You made a good point in your johnson-paragraph.
Obama works short-term, and I presume he wanted to improve his polls to help him with his planned call for funds. Furthermore, he has to demean women to show he is a real male. This might be part of his sub-culture.
